Meet the Team

RBC has 24 staff, most of whom work in the field to ensure that the company is represented at each of the 1,500+ race days each year.  There are six full-time Regional Betting Ring Managers supplemented by 15 part-time Betting Ring Managers, who step in to cover for clashing race meetings and the busy summer months.  RBC has two full-time staff members in the office, along with an outsourced accountancy function and the Managing Director.

Managing Director

John Carthy is also Joint Managing Director of Racecourse Data Technologies. He was IT Director of betchronicle.com from 1999 to 2013. In June 2013 John joined the Ladbrokes group in Ireland where, until July 2018, he served as IT
Director. In January 2019 joined RDT as Joint Managing Director.

Finance Director

Tracey is also the Finance Director of Racecourse Data Technologies. Tracey joined RDT in February 2019 as Finance Manager and joined the Board of Directors in June 2021. Tracey previously worked in the Renewable Energy Sector and Manufacturing. Tracey oversees the finance and administration for both RDT and RBC working closely with John Carthy to support with the overall management of RBC.

Andrew Boardley BRM

Andrew Boardley

Regional Betting Ring Manager

Andrew was a Detective with the Metropolitan Police for 30 years, before working at Harrods with Mohamed Al-Fayed for 18 months as a Security Investigator.  He joined the National Joint Pitch Council on its inception and has been with the company since 1998 as a Betting Ring Manager.  He has been a part-owner in a few racehorses (mostly slow ones) with the highlight being Philson Run who ran fourth in the Grand National and won the Midland Grand National and the Eider.  He enjoys tennis, golf and spending time with the grandchildren.

On retiring from the police after completing 30 years service, John joined the team in 2008 initially as a part-time Betting Ring Manager. In the summer of 2013 he took over the role of Regional Betting Ring Manager for all the Scottish Racecourses, along with Newcastle, Hexham and Carlisle.

Andy joined AGT in 2008, having previously worked as Managing Director of Heathorns International in Malta for 8 years. Andy is currently the Regional Betting Ring Manager for the South West.

Vicki Moore BRM

Regional Betting Ring Manager

Vicki joined the NJPC in 1999 as a Betting Advisor and was promoted to Betting Ring Manager in 2001.  She works predominantly in the South East.

Neil Pateman

National Betting Ring Manager

Neil joined the NJPC in 1999 as a Betting Advisor and was made up to a Betting Ring Manager in 2004.  Neil has held several other roles in the gambling industry including working for Ladbrokes for 5 years prior to joining the NJPC.  Neil has also worked for the Press Association as an SP returner and data transmitter, and was a commentator at Nottingham Greyhound stadium for William Hill radio.

Mark has been a Betting Ring Manager for AGT (then NJPC) since 2004 having previously been employed for three years as a Betting Advisor.

His previous employment includes serving in the RAF for eight years, Accounts Manager for a finance company and working in the betting ring for various bookmakers.

Based in the West Midlands, Kevin has a long and varied career in the betting industry, most recently as a freelance Raceday Manager for the Press Association after 30 years with SIS and an on-course representative. Prior to that, he was a Betting Intelligence Officer for the Jockey Club, an odds compiler and a Betting Shop Manager. Away from the racecourse, he supports Reading Football Club.

Malcolm was employed by the Totepool Racecourse Division from 1997 to 2015, having previously worked at British Coal from 1972 to 1997. He joined AGT in March 2016 and works primarily on the northern tracks.

Paul served with the police for 30 years before joining AGT as a Betting Ring Manager.  He left AGT for five years to work as a Starting Price Validator but he has now returned to the betting ring.

Paul is a keen golfer, a qualified cricket coach/umpire and a qualified wine tutor.

Darren Irvin BRM

Based in the Scottish Borders, Darren has worked in the horse racing industry since the early 2000's, first of all for the Press Association at Howden and then as a SP returner for Turf TV before going back to PA when they took over the SP's. He enjoys keeping fit through running and playing tennis, and also enjoys watching and playing most sports.

Duncan joined AGT in February 2022 after 22 years of owning his own betting shops on the South coast.  He originally trained as a shop/regional manager for Mecca Bookmakers and then worked for William Hill. He has a long standing interest in racing which began as a youngster with his father at the Epsom Derby when Mill Reef won.

He's a keen golfer, has performed in a local amateur dramatic group for many years, and also loves gardening and walking. He is a sports fanatic and can usually be found watching Sussex cricket in the summer, and Portsmouth football in the winter.

Cliff Morrissey BRM

Based in the East Midlands, Cliff joined AGT in 2022 having previously worked for Ladbrokes, several on-course bookmakers and owned his own betting shops in the 1980's.

A career change into teaching led him to become Head of Mathematics in an Essex school, but still working within the industry whenever possible.

After retirement from teaching, he then joined SIS and the Press Association as a SP returner, working all over the country.

Based in the North-West, Mike has been in the betting industry for over 20 years working for the likes of Littlewoods Bet Direct, Totesport, Eurosport and Bet Victor. He currently consults with Sportsbook start ups and advises them on their risk management areas.

Stephen Rann BRM

Stephen joined AGT in January 2019 after many years' experience of working in the betting ring.  He recently took semi-retirement after a long career in Insurance Brokerage and is now retained as a consultant by his employers.  His interest in racing can be traced back to his late teens when, much to his mother's disappointment, he worked at his local bookmakers one summer holiday marking up the results on a wipe board through a smoke-filled haze.

Will has worked as a part-time Betting Ring Manager since the NJPC was launched in 1998, covering his first meeting at Wincanton on Boxing Day. Away from the racecourse, Will has worked for Nationwide Building Society in Swindon since 1994, and is currently responsible for managing change across all of their current account and credit card products. Will is a keen Luton Town fan and once ran the Oxford Half Marathon.

Newmarket-based Sarah joined AGT as a part-time Betting Ring Manager in April 2014.  Sarah's past experience includes around 20 years working in on-course bookmaking starting out in the days when chalk was still commonplace. Latterly she was a partner in Evington of Newmarket. Having worked at around 50 tracks and visited them all, Sarah loves the charm and diversity of British racecourses. Other interests include travelling the UK, and Sarah is looking forward to the NH mares she is involved with racing through the Winter following her first success as an owner in June 2023.

Leigh joined RBC at the start of November 2022, he came to us after working several years at one of the bookmakers' associations, the British Racecourse Bookmakers' Association as their office manager. He has also been a regular face around the northern courses and point to points over the years, starting out in his early teens.
