Bookmaker Assistant Registration and ID Badge Scheme – Effective 1 January 2027

Racecourse Betting Compliance (RBC) wishes to advise bookmakers of the proposed revised charging structure for the new Bookmaker Assistant Registration and ID Badge Scheme.

Following discussions with the bookmaker associations and in recognition of the additional costs associated with introducing the scheme, the following charging structure has been proposed:

  • First four ID badges: £30 per badge (£25 plus VAT).
  • Fifth and subsequent ID badges: £18 per badge (£15 plus VAT).

The revised structure is intended to minimise the financial impact on bookmakers, particularly those operating multiple pitches and employing larger numbers of staff.

Each ID badge will be subject to a one-off charge, with no annual renewal fee. The badge will be issued to the individual bookmaker assistant and can be used when working at UK racecourses.

RBC recognises the contribution made by bookmakers towards the funding and operation of racecourse betting administration and is committed to introducing the scheme in a fair and proportionate manner.

The revised charges are intended to balance the administrative costs of the scheme with the need to minimise additional costs for bookmakers.
