You will no doubt have seen the various announcements regarding racecourse improvements to significantly benefit the Betfred Derby Festival and from other discussions you may be aware that the existing betting areas of Upper Tattenham (partially) and Lonsdale will be impacted as a result.
These plans were recently discussed with representatives from UCORB & BRBA and many of their recommendations have been incorporated.
UPPER TATTENHAM
The hospitality marquee which used to be situated nearest to the grandstand enclosure will now be relocated into the Lonsdale enclosure.
In its place will be ‘Galileo’s’ a large covered area providing entertainment during the day along with it being the after party venue. It will be open all day with various catering offerings, and seating for racegoers.
It will also now also become one of the main access points for admission to the grandstand enclosure.
Accordingly, it becomes part of the grandstand enclosure - there will be no pedestrian access to or from Upper Tattenham.
A temporary pedestrian bridge will link it to the grandstand.
Four bookmakers from the Tattersalls list will be able to operate near to Galileo’s - location t.b.c.
LONSDALE
This area will comprise: Cedric’s hospitality; a large covered seating area (for use of hospitality guests, annual members & press); and the relocated hospitality marquee from Upper Tattenham.
There will be no general public admission or coaches in the Lonsdale.
Eight bookmakers from the Lonsdale list will be able to operate outside the relocated marquee. There is no room for bookmakers anywhere else in the enclosure.
The remaining 22 Lonsdale betting positions will be relocated into the Walton area (there will be no other on-course bookmakers in the Walton).
There will be coaches parked in the Walton (instead of within the Lonsdale).
The charges for Lonsdale bookmakers will be the same as those for Upper Tattenham.
TATTERSALLS BOOKMAKER NUMBER
Currently the Tattersalls bookmaker number is 72, however 9 anchor points are historically unavailable due to the location of Derby specific temporary structures.
Accordingly, the bookmaker number will be revised to 67 (72 minus 9 plus 4 Galileo’s). Typically, Derby Day tattersalls bookmaker attendance has been in the 50’s.
OWNERS & TRAINERS
If there is sufficient space there will be two betting positions available. Further details t.b.c.
I wish all Epsom Derby bookmakers a fabulous and successful Betfred Derby Festival 2026,
